8 Highlights · tippen Sie auf einen PunktMasuleh ist ein etwa 800 bis 1.000 Jahre altes Terrassendorf in den bewaldeten Ausläufern des Alborz in Gilan, berühmt für seine ockerfarbenen, ineinandergreifenden Häuser, die so steil den Hang hinauf gestapelt sind, dass die Flachdächer der unteren Häuser den darüberliegenden Häusern als Hof, Weg und „Straße“ dienen. Auf rund 1.050 m über dem Meeresspiegel gelegen und fast ständig in Nebel und Regen gehüllt, ist es die einzige Siedlung im Iran, in der Kraftfahrzeuge vollständig verboten sind, was ein durchweg fußläufiges Gefüge aus Treppen, Terrassen und einem überwölbten Basar bewahrt. Die typischen gelben Fassaden (die Farbe verbessert die Sichtbarkeit im Nebel) und die Einbettung dichter Architektur in eine nahezu senkrechte Naturlandschaft machen den Ort zu einer mustergültigen „Kulturlandschaft“. Er steht auf der Tentativliste der UNESCO, ist aber noch nicht eingeschrieben.
