Chogha Zanbil ist die großartige Ruine der Zikkurat der elamischen Stadt Dur-Untash, um 1250 v. Chr. von König Untash-Napirisha erbaut – die besterhaltene Zikkurat der Welt und eine der wenigen außerhalb Mesopotamiens. Als erste UNESCO-Welterbestätte Irans (1979) erhebt sie sich in Stufen aus Lehmziegeln über der Ebene von Khuzestan nahe Susa und trägt noch immer Ziegel mit Keilschriftstempeln sowie antike Wasserkanäle.
