Bushehr, the 'Pearl of the Persian Gulf', is a historic port on a narrow peninsula in Iran's hot, humid south. Its treasure is the Baft-e Qadim — a remarkably intact old quarter of Zand- and Qajar-era merchant houses built from coral stone and gypsum, threaded by shaded alleys and topped with wind-towers (badgirs). A great trading port in the 18th-19th centuries, it blends Persian, Bandari and Indian-Ocean influences in its architecture, seafood cuisine and waterfront life.
